Running to Defeat ALS (Chicago Edition)
Hello Everyone!
I have been accepted to run the Bank of America CHICAGO MARATHON with Team ALS! I will be running in memory of my grandfather, Rex Rouse, who passed away when I was in second grade. Those that know me know I have been involved in the Houston ALS Chapter for years, this cause is very near and dear to my heart, and I am excited to get involved in the Chicago ALS Chapter over the next year!
Through my journey advocating for those affected, I have met so many wonderful families, many that have become like a family to me. Jim and Diane Tobin will forever have a special place in my heart, it has been one of my greatest life's honor to care for Jim as he battled this terrible disease, all with a smile on his face and a terrible dad joke on hand. The thing about ALS is it not only affects one person, it touches everyone involved. Diane was right there by his side, every step of the way and when he could no longer walk, she had her home and vehicle adapted to accommodate everything ALS took. Every day I aspire to be more like Jim and Diane; the life lessons I've learned, invaluable, and I'm forever grateful to have had them come into my life. As I prepare to run 26.2 miles I will carry Jim in my heart every step of the way because I know if Jim was here, cured of ALS, he would be leading the fight.
Please help me reach my goal of $2,500 by donating below!
I am raising funds and awareness to help fight back against this terrible disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. Every 90 minutes a person is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS is 100% fatal.
This is why challenging ALS is important to me. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. I'm asking for your help. Please donate and help defeat ALS!
