Leah's Run for ALS
I'm proud to join Team ALS to raise funds and awareness for a cause that means so much to me. In 2016, my uncle, Tim Green, was diagnosed with ALS after an incredible career in the NFL as a player and commentator, and while continuing his work as a lawyer and an author. Watching his journey has shown me both the immense challenges of this disease and the life-changing impact that research, treatments, and support can provide. His experience helped inspire me to pursue biomedical engineering, with the goal of creating innovations that help people facing serious illnesses.
ALS United Greater Chicago provides essential resources to families and helps drive cutting-edge research around the world. Their work brings hope and support to people like my uncle — and to so many others impacted by ALS.
ALS is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that gradually takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, swallow, and breathe. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is just 2 to 5 years, and while ALS can affect anyone, there is still no known cause or cure. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes another person loses their battle with it.
This is why I’m running — to honor my uncle’s strength, to raise awareness, and to help support families who are living with this disease today. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps provide critical support and moves us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure.
I’m excited to tackle this race for my uncle and the ALS community. Thanks for being here, cheering me on, and helping me make a difference.
