Thank you for helping me reach my ALS Walk fundraising goal! Each year the walk raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
I am reaching out for support and help with raising funds. As many of you are aware, my cousin passed away this year, just six months after being diagnosed with bulbar ALS in May. Bulbar ALS is a particularly aggressive form of ALS, and currently, there is no cure for ALS. This September, my family and I will be participating in the ALS walk in Peoria as Team Shavonne. While my cousin succumbed to this devastating disease, our broader mission is to contribute to finding a cure and raising awareness.
