Solidarity for Soly at their first ALS Walk
Solidarity for Soly at their first ALS Walk
Thank you for helping me reach my ALS Walk fundraising goal! The Walk raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.

This will be my 16th year supporting this amazing organization. We formed our walk team, Solidarity for Soly, in support of our beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Soledad "Soly" Munoz, as she embarked on her challenging health journey. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. Despite her diagnosis, Mom remained the strong, faithful, kind, loving, and resilient human being she always was to everyone she met.

Throughout her life, Mom touched the lives of so many individuals. As a lifelong educator, she taught special education, elementary, and high school students in the Philippines and throughout the Chicagoland area. Mom dedicated her life to God as a true woman of faith. Early on, she was on the pathway to become a nun, but he met my father at early morning mass. Every morning, they looked forward to seeing each other, while sharing their devotion to their Catholic faith. Eventually, they married and had six children (I'm #4). Mom's strong faith continued on. She supported our parish for decades in many ways, most notably as a cantor. Mom had the voice of an angel. When she entered her heavenly realm on April 21, 2011, her loss was felt by all.

Over the years, my connection to the ALS United Greater Chicago has evolved from a walk to participant to a volunteer role as an ALS Ambassador. Not only has the organization provided the guidance and support that Mom needed early on her ALS diagnosis, but they also provide critical funding to local ALS patients, clinics, and research. Your support is appreciated to continue their efforts to find a cure for ALS. A donation of any amount will help bring us a step closer to this goal. Thank you!
