Welcome to My Personal Page
This year, I am once again joining TeamALS in honor of Uncle Mike Lavelle, who sadly lost his battle with ALS in 2023, after almost two years fighting this disease.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
Uncle Mike was an inspiration to us all, showing immense bravery, strength, and determination, even in the face of a terminal illness. After learning of his diagnosis, I decided to join TeamALS for the 2022 Chicago Marathon, alongside Bruce, Eileen, and Brian Honicky, and Ben Kennedy – creating our team, Always Lavelle Strong.
I was blown away by the incredible support we received from friends and family, reflecting the monumental impact Mike had on those around him. I got a closer look into how many people have been affected by this disease, and how ALS United Greater Chicago could support by spreading awareness of the urgency of the cause, and to push for treatments and a cure.
Our TeamALS involvement continued in the following years, with my friend Nicole Walker running for her Uncle Glen in 2023, and my husband Kyle representing Always Lavelle Strong alongside his cousin Patrick Saber in 2024.
This year, I’ll be running alongside Meghan McKee, Nicole Walker and Abe Melendez, and carrying on Always Lavelle Strong and the legacy that Uncle Mike built. Your generous donations can continue to raise awareness, provide resources and services to families free of charge, and most importantly, bring hope to those living with ALS in our community.
Please donate and help defeat ALS!
Thank you,
Ari
