Welcome to Team Big Mike
Thank you for helping me reach my ALS Walk fundraising goal! The Walk raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Dad (Big Mike) was diagnosed with ALS on November 11, 2022 in Peoria and confirmed at Mayos on January 6, 2023. Unfortunately, he lost that battle surrounded by his family on February 7, 2024. While we are shattered after losing the patriarch of our family, we are carrying on by hoping to raise awareness about this terrible disease and help comfort those families who are battling ALS. Your donations stay here locally. The ALS Foundation furnished Dad with a lift chair and other medical devices that were of great comfort and allowed him keep his independence and mobility for a while longer.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
