2024 TeamALS - Bank of America Chicago Marathon

Strides for Sean

We are a close-knit group of lifelong friends united by a meaningful cause. Our motivation stems from the recent diagnosis of one of our best friends. At the age of 28, he became the youngest individual to receive an ALS diagnosis at the Mayo Clinic. In support of our friend, we've taken on the commitment to raise funds and participate in the 2024 Chicago Marathon for the ALS Association. Originating from our shared experience as former lacrosse teammates, where running was once a form of punishment, none of us have tackled a distance longer than 3 miles since around 2015. Despite the anticipated challenge, we recognize that it pales in comparison to the hardships endured by those living with ALS.

We're each only required to raise $1,250/person to run the race. That said, we aren't doing this for our enjoyment; we're running to raise money for the ALS Association and have set our cumulative goal at $10,000. The ALS Association is the leading charity for ALS research; over 90% of funds go directly to research, patient & community service, education, and fundraising. It's a well-run organization and a worthy cause.

ALS United Greater Chicago provides much-needed patient services resources, funds global, cutting-edge research, and does much more to help those living with ALS in our community. TeamALS is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by ALS to spread awareness of the urgency of our cause, and push for treatments and a cure.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently, there is no known cause or cure.

This is why challenging ALS is important to us. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. We're asking for your help. Please donate and help defeat ALS!
